4 European Football clubs who failed to secure their domestic trophies


Football Club Trophies 2022: Cup football has its own charm and excitement across Europe as teams look to add silverware to their cabinet.

The 2023 footballing season continued the tradition of EFL Cup, FA Cup, Copa del Rey, Coupe de France, DFB Pokal and other such tournaments.

2022 saw a host of winners across Europe claim their trophies but have fallen short in the current season.

Hence, today we look at the 4 Football Club Trophy 2022 winners who failed to secure domestic titles.

Real Madrid- Spanish Super Cup

Real Madrid failed to win successive Spanish Super Cup titles this season as they were emphatically beaten by Barcelona 3-1 in the finals earlier this month.

The La Liga side beat Bilbao in 2022 to win their 13th Spanish Super Cup title but could not add to that tally.

Liverpool- EFL Cup and FA Cup

The Reds won both the English domestic titles last season being the EFL Cup and FA Cup beating Chelsea in the finals last year twice.

However, this season Liverpool lost to Manchester City in the EFL Cup Round 4 match by a 3-2 margin.

To add salt to the wounds, they were knocked out of the FA Cup competition as well in the 4th round by Brighton.

LOSC Lille-French Super Cup

Lille won the French Super Cup at the start of the 2021-22 season when they beat PSG to the crown.

But it wasn’t to be in 2022-23 as PSG faced Nantes in the cup final in July, where they comprehensively overpowered the Men in Yellow 4-0.

Leicester City-FA Community Shield

In the 2021-22 season, Leicester beat Manchester City to the crown by Iheanacho’s penalty goal in the 1-0 win.

But it was Liverpool that won the 2021-22 FA Community Shield in a 3-1 victory over Manchester City at the start of the season.
