EPL: Everton defeat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield, their first victory at the ground in 22 years

Everton completed a resounding win after beating their Merseyside rivals 2-0 at Anfield completing their first win at the ground in 22 years. This is Liverpool’s fourth consecutive loss at their home ground as troubles keep mounting for the champions.

The town was painted Blue after goals from Richarlison and Sigurdsson were enough to seal the deal. This is Liverpool’s fifth loss in six games across all competitions with their solitary win coming in mid week against RB Leipzig.

ImageEverton opened their account after some lovely ball control coupled with a delicious through ball by Rodriguez to Richarlison, who fired home to score in front of the vacant Kop in the 3rd minute.

The Evertonians erupted yet again in the comforts of their homes as Dominic Calvert-Lewin appeared to have been fouled by Trent Alexander-Arnold with the referee pointing to the spot. Sigurdsson converted the penalty to make it 2-0 in the 83rd Minute and confirm a victory as it was too little too late for the Reds.

Liverpool had their chances throughout the game but were not clinical enough as they slipped to yet another defeat. With this win, Everton are seventh on the table with 40 points and are just below Liverpool on goal difference although the Blues have a match in hand.

Liverpool now play their next game against Sheffield United on 28th February while the Blues play Southampton on 1st March.
