EPL: Manchester United held to a goalless draw against Crystal Palace, stay 2nd in the points table


Manchester United were frustrated once again as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday to leave themselves 14 points behind Manchester City.
ImageUnited started off the first half very gingerly and took a while to get into the game, but they had the first chance falling to Nemanja Matic, whose shot was saved by Guaita’s fingertip to deny the visitors a lead.
Rashford fizzed his shot just wide of the left-hand post after latching onto Shaw’s cross to give another warning to Palace.
ImageUnited grew with the passing minutes and started having control of the ball but the defense of Palace was resolute and unwilling to give a sniff to the visitors.
Cahill coming to the rescue at the end of the first half to prevent Wan-Bissaka’s cross from reaching Cavani.
In the second half, it was more of the same with Palace starting of the half stronger and it nearly rewarded them when Townsend slashed an effort inches wide after Milivojevic’s shot was blocked by the United wall.
United got on James and Mctominay to create more attacking chances and open up the play further but it did not reap dividends.
ImageThe visitors were almost punished in the 89th minute when Van Aanholt found himself one-on-one against Henderson, but the United No 1 came to the rescue to make a vital save.
United now with this draw have recorded the most goalless draws in the Premier League this season having 6 to their credit.
Manchester United now stand 2nd on the points table with 51 points while Crystal Palace stay 13th with 34 points.
