EPL Result: Chelsea held to a goalless draw against Leeds United, stay fourth on the table with 51 points

Chelsea dropped points in their pursuit of a top 4 finish as they were held to a goalless draw against Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday in the Premier League.
ImageIt was a rather disappointing contest with both chances not creating many dangerous opportunities to work the No 1’s of both sides.
Chelsea was the brighter team to begin proceedings as they moved the ball around quickly, strung in few passes to start upping the tempo but it was the home side who had the first opportunity of the game, when Roberts scored into the empty net, but the referee picked up the offside flag to cut short the celebrations.
Leeds had a disastrous moment as Ayling’s clearance bounced off Llorente’s back and hit the crossbar but luckily landed in the hands of Meslier to deny Chelsea the lead.
ImageRoberts had his shot hit the crossbar when he curled a shot into the top corner with Mendy getting the slightest of touches to divert the ball onto it to deny the home side the opening goal.
The rest of the half was possession-based football with not many shots on target as both sides went into the half goalless.

ImageIn the second half, it was more of the same from both sides. Havertz did not take his chance to score while Rapinha’s awkward shot made Mendy get a strong hand to the ball.
Rodrigo had the best chance to win the game 12 minutes from time but his free header was sent straight down the middle and into the hands of Mendy to keep it 0-0.
Chelsea made their substitutions with Werner, James coming in to inject some pace into the play and get the ball rolling quicker but that did not pay off well as Chelsea finished the match just as they started; goalless. The Blues are still unbeaten under Tuchel.
Thomas Tuchel’s side stay at fourth with 51 points while Leeds United also stay at 11th position with 36 points and are now within two points of the top half of the table.
Leeds United are on their travels for their next match against Fulham while The Blues will play their all-important 2nd leg fixture against Atlético Madrid at the Bridge on Wednesday in the Champions League.
