EPL Result: Goals from Ødegaard and Lacazette ensure Arsenal comeback to win 2-1 against Tottenham, stay tenth on points table

Arsenal came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on the night and get the much deserved three points. It was the away side who took the lead with a brilliant and definite candidate for goal of the season from Lamela before Ødegaard and Lacazette’s goals secured the win for the Gunners.
Arsenal began proceedings and were dominating possession for most of the half and it was staggering that Spurs did not even getting a touch of the ball in the first six minutes of play.
The consistent dash of energy and pressure from Arsenal nearly rewarded them as Smith Rowe curled a shot towards goal but he was denied by the post as the ball looped over Hugo Lloris in the 16th minute.

Spurs were feeling the after effects of travelling to Greece for their Europa League tie against Dinamo Zagreb and having to play after a quick turnaround. They were not able to stitch any sort of passes to get into the game.

It was more bad news for Spurs when Son pulled up in the 19th minute after holding his hamstring and was subbed out of proceedings with Lamela replacing him.
ImageThe substitution paid dividends within a few minutes as Lamela put the hosts ahead when he struck a Rabona which was drilled past two defenders and into the back of the net which made the teammates jump in joy. A definite candidate for goal of the season and the Puskás Award.
It all started with Reguilon who crossed the ball into the box where Luca Moura was present to touch it for Lamela, who produced an absolute supreme piece of magic and skill to put Tottenham ahead in the 33rd minute. This being Spurs first attack of the game.
Arsenal immediately had their moment but once again the post came to the rescue of the home side as Cedric’s low shot was drilled against it.
ImageBut the Gunners did not have to wait much longer to get back into the game as Ødegaard picked out Tierney’s cross and shot towards goal, which took a deflection off Alderweireld and went passed Lloris to make it a deserving 1-1 in the 44th minute.
ImageIt was in the 62nd minute when Spurs were pegged back once again as Sanchez fouled Luiz in the box with an outstretched leg to concede a penalty, which was struck home comfortably by Lacazette to make it 2-1.
Tottenham’s troubles did not end there as they were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute with Lamela was sent off after a second yellow card was given for swinging his arm to block off Tierney.
This mounted further pressured on Jose’s men as they were not only a goal down but a man down as well.
Kane nearly got the equalizer in the 90th minute but his freekick was denied by the post and that proved to be the last action of the game.
ImageArsenal registered another significant victory in their pursuit of finishing the season on a high as they completed the comeback and won 2-1.
The Gunners stay tenth despite the win but are now four points behind Tottenham, whose five-game winning run came to an end and they remain in 7th place.
