Iran through to the Qatar World Cup in 2022; become 12th team to qualify for mega event


Iran WC 2022: Iran became the latest nation to book their place at the FIFA WC 2022 finals in Qatar as they beat Iraq 1-0 on Thursday.

This was the Asian Country’s third consecutive World Cup finals booking after their previous appearances in 2014 and 2018.

Iran has now qualified for their 6th World Cup finals and take the flight to Qatar for the mega-event.

Iran secured their place in the World Cup finals after a 1-0 home win over Iraq in their Qualification match on Thursday.

Taremi struck home three minutes into the second half to send the Iran team into raptures as the Asian side became the 12th team to qualify for the event.

Dragan Skocic’s men join hosts Qatar, Germany, Denmark, Brazil, Belgium, France (WC holders), Croatia, Spain, Serbia, Switzerland, England, Netherlands and Argentina for the big-ticket event.

The win over Iraq was Iran’s 6th of the group stage as they remain on top of the Group A table with 19 points.

With UAE capable of only reaching 18 points in their remainder clashes, Iran secured their place in Qatar 2022.

In the previous qualifier round, Iran topped their Group C with 18 points from 8 matches and continued their form in the final qualifier rounds to progress.
