Kohli becomes the most successful test captain at home for India, joins MS Dhoni

Just a week ago Virat Kohli led India had lost its first test match against England. Fans and critics alike were questioning Kohli’s captaincy and were discussing all sorts of possibilities to replace him with Ajinkya Rahane.

As this new India has been doing in the recent past, it bounced back by winning the 2nd test match of the series. India leveled the series by 1-1 after defeating England by 317 runs at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. And with this win, Virat Kohli becomes the most successful captain at home and Joins MS Dhoni at the top. MSD has 21 wins in the 30 home tests he captained for India. Kohli has the same number of wins in 28 matches that he captained for India, so far.

It will be fair to say that India’s test team has come up with a steep learning curve in the last two decades. The winning percentage for India at home has only increased. During Sourav Ganguli’s captaincy, India had a win percentage of 47.6 % at home, it increased to 70% during MS Dhoni’s watch, and now stands at 74% under Kohli’s leadership. Kohli is just one home win away from becoming the all-time most successful test captain at home for India.

India is now positioned 2nd in the ICC test championship rankings and England has slipped to the fourth spot.
