Lovlina Borgohain wins Bronze medal for India in Tokyo 2020 Olympics, loses in Semifinal

Lovlina Borgohain wins Bronze Medal: Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has taken the bronze medal in women’s welterweight category at the Tokyo Olympics on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old from Assam lost the semifinal in a unanimous decision to Turkish top seed Busenaz Surmeneli at the Ryogoku Kokugikan Arena.

Lovlina’s bronze is India’s third medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Meanwhile, Union Sports minister Anurag Thakur wrote, “Lovlina, you gave your best punch! Boxing glove. India Flag of India is extremely proud of what you have achieved! You’ve achieved a Third place medal medal in your first Olympics; the journey has just begun! Well done @LovlinaBorgohai!”

Union Law and Justice minister Kiren Rijiju wrote, “Dear @LovlinaBorgohai  you have made our country proud! Congratulations on winning Olympic Bronze medal! We are extremely proud of your achievement! #Cheer4India”.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated the Assam’s daughter Lovlina Borgohai for bringing home the bronze medal in Olympics boxing, adding, “Your name will be etched in golden letters in the history of Assam. The entire nation is proud of your phenomenal achievement.”
