Manchester United come from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 at Old Trafford; stay 2nd on the points table


Manchester United came from behind yet again this season to beat Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1 at Old Trafford and stay in 2nd place on the points table.

Danny Welbeck gave the visitors a shock lead in the first half but Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood’s second half strikes completed the turnaround for the Red Devils.
Manchester United were completely dominant in possession but lacked the quality in the supply from the flanks along with incisiveness required in the final third.
But improved in the second half to win this contest the hard way.
Greenwood had the first big chance of the game but his drilled shot bounced back off the post.
Brighton were on the defensive from the start but took a shock lead in the 13th minute through Danny Welbeck.

Manchester United were pretty poor for the rest of the half as they could not convert the sizeable possession into any clear cut chances.
In the second half, United were much sharper at goal with Brighton keeper making comfortable saves from Rashford and Bruno.
ImageBut United’s incisiveness was finally rewarded as Rashford equalized in the 62nd minute to make it 1-1.
Brighton lost the ball in the United half and Bruno was first to it as he provided a lovely ball to Rashford, who curled the ball around the keeper and into the far bottom corner to restore parity.
ImageUnited kept creating chances and moving forward in search of the winner and were finally rewarded in the form of Mason Greenwood, who headed home to send the Red Devils 2-1 up.
Pogba’s scuffed his initial volley but Greenwood threw himself to get his head onto the ball and send it home and get the crucial goal.
The goal was the deflating blow as Brighton could not muster post the winning goal.
This result means that Manchester United have now secured 25 points in the league from losing positions showing their unwillingness to throw in the towel.
