Top 5 reasons why Ronaldo could leave Man United after last night’s UCL exit; check out

Ronaldo to leave Man Utd: After defeat last night in the Champions League, Manchester United has ensured they finish yet another season without silverware.

Cristiano Ronaldo was not able to help his side overcome the resolute Atletico Madrid side, as the visitors clinched a 1-0 second leg win.

This win ensured a 2-1 aggregate win for Simeone’s men, due to which they sealed their place in the Quarter-finals of the competition.

However, the big question has once again been risen: Will Ronaldo leave at the end of the season?

RONALDO MAN UTD SEASON

The Portuguese is set to finish a season without a trophy for the first time since 2009-10 after last night’s disappointing exit from the UCL.

Ronaldo’s dream return to Old Trafford has been nothing short of a nightmare, as it has turned out with United out of contention on all fronts.

At the fag end of his career, Cristiano would not have envisioned this sort of failure as a result, we could see him leave United at the end of the season.

We look at the top 5 reasons why this could be a possibility for Manchester United at the end of the 2021-22 football season.

UCL failure

ImageCristiano Ronaldo has been one of the shining lights for Manchester United this season in the UCL with his goals contributions to victories.

With 6 goals from 7 matches, Ronaldo helped United qualify from the group stage with his goal being the clincher on most occasions.

Cristiano has excelled in the UCL and last night’s exit could well be the last straw in what has been a poor and terrible season for the Red Devils.

Ronaldo did not have the chance to hit a single shot on target yesterday, which displayed United’s inability to feed him with the proper delivery.

Last night’s shambolic performance against Atletico will definitely put things into perspective for the Portuguese goal-scorer.

Poor EPL season

With the signings of Sancho, Varane and Ronaldo; United were expected to compete for  the EPL title.

But it has all fallen south for the Red Devils, as they stand in 5th place on the league table huffing and puffing towards UCL qualification.

Man United has been so far off the pace in the league this season that despite Ronaldo’s 12 goals; they look way below the chasing pack.

United is still in with a chance to seal a top 4 spot, but for a club of this magnitude and legacy; finishing 4th is a crime for Manchester United.

From having chased league titles to finishing 4th, the club’s standards have massively dropped.

Falling out with team-mates

Ronaldo has openly through an interview exposed the lack of desire and courage in his Manchester United’s teammates this season.

Due to these issues, Ronaldo seems to have fallen out with the likes of Rashford, Greenwood and others; who haven’t been able to support him.

The Portuguese was apparently shocked at the drop in standards of the club once he joined and has found it difficult to cope with.

He is a serial winner and has expressed his anger for the poor performances by the team on the whole this season.

Lack of silverware

As mentioned earlier, this season will be Ronaldo’s first without a trophy since the 2009-10 season.

This shows the inability of the current Manchester United side to gain glory like their predecessors.

An early exit from the EFL and FA Cup competitions; exposed United’s inability to win domestic tournaments as well.

UCL was the only competition where United had a slim chance to finish with a trophy until last night and now that is out of the picture as well.

With no trophies and lack of future planning on the next manager of the club, Ronaldo might look at other options in Europe for a last hurrah.

Quality team-mates and Coach

The current Manchester United side has lacked spirit, desire and winning mentality which has been visible throughout the season.

With all the big names in Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford and others; the players have just not been able to hit top gear at all this season.

Ralf’s appointment as well for a short term till the end of the season did not help Ronaldo’s cause showing the club’s lack of planning.

United has not won a trophy for 5 years since their UEL 2017 triumph; leaving plenty to ponder for Ronaldo.

This season, United has been solely reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo across competitions and this is the harsh truth.

Despite the big-money singings and quality, they have not clicked as a team and supported Ronaldo.

Lack of a proper team-system and planning has left Cristiano in a state of dilemma whether he could stay on for another season.

Ronaldo signed a 2-year deal with the Red Devils including an option to extend for another season.

But with the failures of the club on all fronts, he could be on his way out earlier than expected.
