Top 5 International cricketers who have played 100 test matches but not played a single World Cup match

Cricket is known to be a gentleman’s game but the game isn’t gentle with anyone unless you deserve a place in it. Every person who becomes a cricketer has a dream to represent his/her country and play the world cup. But getting a place in a world cup squad is not everyone’s cup of tea. Consistency and determination is the key to be a part of the world cup. Some players are only suited for Test cricket, some for ODI and T20I. Very rare and privileged players get a chance to play for all the 3 formats and get a chance to play the world cup and clinch the title for their country.

In this article, we will talk about 5 ultimate cricketers who were legends in Test cricket but never get the chance to play a single World Cup match.

1. VVS Laxman –

VVS Laxman also known as ‘Very Very Special Laxman’ is one of the finest batsmen with a magnificent technique in red-ball cricket. Laxman played 86 One Day International but never created a dominance as such. His batting average in the white ball was around 30. Laxman had a chance to represent in the 2003 world cup squad but later Dinesh Mongia was included instead of him. But in Test cricket, he created his dominance.

2. Justin Langer –

Explosive test opener who played magnificently in any condition. Justin Langer was like a wall for the top order in the Aussie line up and his partnerships with Mathew Hayden created a fearful mindset for the opponents. Justin Langer played 105 tests and has scored 7696 runs but turned out to be a flop show in ODI’s and that’s why didn’t play more than 8 matches.

3. Alastair Cook –

‘Sir Alastair Cook’ was England’s legendary test opener. Cook has played more than 150 test matches and a mammoth 12,472 runs. Legendary test opener also played 92 ODI’s but only scored 3204 overall. Cool also led England in ODI’s but before the 2015 world cup, he lost his captaincy and his position from the team which shocked many cricket pundits.

4. Colin Cowdrey –

‘Sir Colin Cowdrey’ represented England and is also known as the first player to play 100 tests. Majorly ‘Sir Cowdrey’ only focused on test cricket and only played one ODI in his entire cricketing career. But his test dominance was more than two decades and with that phenomenal achievement, he had also scored 43,000 first-class runs.

5. Ishant Sharma –

Coming from Delhi Ishant Sharma had been the most crucial element for team India when it comes to fast bowling. Yesterday against England he played his 100th test match. Ishant has also played 80 ODI’s and has clinched 115 wickets. Ishant probably had a chance to play in the 2015 world cup but, due to a knee injury, he was ruled out of the squad. But Ishant Sharma is a permanent member of team India in test cricket.
