Football News: Top 5 worst football signings in 2021; check out who makes the cut

Worst signings 2021: Like every season transfer window has its pros and cons, 2021 is no difference with a number of signings proving to be wrong.

The 2021 transfer window saw many players shift from one club to another in search of better opportunities, challenges and having more game time.

While it has been fruitful for some, it has not been the best of choices made by other players.

Due to lack of playing time, inability to get into the playing 11 or other reasons, the players are proving to be liabilities for their respective clubs.

We have a look at the top 5 worst football signings made in 2021:

Jack Grealish

Manchester City broke the bank in the recently concluded transfer window ahead of the 2021-22 season when they acquired Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

The transfer costed a whopping British record of 100 million pounds as the 26-year-old made the move.

However, it has not been smooth sailing for Jack in the blue half of Manchester as he has not yet his straps yet under Pep Guardiola.

In 9 EPL appearances, Grealish has scored once and provided 2 assists; proving his transfer to be criticized and considered overpaid.

It may be early in the season but the ex-Aston Villa has not been able to light up the Premier League since his move to Manchester City.

Guardiola has on many occasions substituted him out and been critical of his work rate and performances.

Jack Grealish is a player filled with quality and needs to step up the ante if he needs to show the CityZens his class and form.

Jadon Sancho

The English winger moved from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United in the summer transfer window for 73 million pounds, which got the fans excited.

However, the 21-year-old has made only 3 starts this season for the Red Devils in the Premier League and is yet to register a goal or assist in the Red Jersey.

Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjær has found it difficult to accommodate Sancho into his starting line-up and has been often not played him at all.

Sancho came into the Red Half of Manchester with phenomenal skillset, pace and creativity.

But Ole’s not found a way to ensure that the talent gets to show his true self to the Old Trafford faithful.

It won’t be too long before the youngster feels distant from the squad; if he does not get the required playing time.

Joseph Willock

After a good loan spell last year with the Magpies, Joe Willock completed a permanent move to Newcastle United from Arsenal.

In 21 appearances for them last season, Willock scored 8 goals for the Magpies and had become an integral part of the Newcastle United team.

But ever since his move has been made permanent, Joe Willock has not been able to translate his form for the Magpies.

After 9 matches in the 2021-22 season, Joe Willock is yet to register a goal or assist with the now richest EPL side, Newcastle United.

The troubles have mounted for Newcastle due to their poor form this season and even after the sacking of Steve Bruce and new Saudi owners taking charge, there has been no difference.

Newcastle United is in 19th place on the league table with 5 points from 11 matches and remain the sole side in the Premier League this season yet to win a match.

Willock’s goal-threat ability has been reduced completely due to the sub-standard and poor play from Newcastle in the other parts of the field.

The signing has proven to be a bad one given it has not helped change the tide in Newcastle.

Shkodran Mustafi

After just 13 appearances at the German club, he made the move to Levante in the summer transfer window.

This was due to the relegation of Schalke 04 from the Bundesliga last season.

Schalke finished last in the Bundesliga table with just 16 points from 34 matches, which saw them drop into the second vision for the first time in 30 years.

Mustafi could not bring his experience into play and saved Schalke from the drop and was soon released at the end of the season.

Thus, proving to be one of the worst signings for the club.

Miralem Pjanic

Pjanic made 30 appearances across competitions for Barcelona last season, before heading  on loan to Besiktas.

He was outspoken about his treatment by Koeman during his time at Barcelona saying that the ex-Barcelona player disrespected him.

With lack of playing time and issues with the management, Pjanic never got to show his worth to the Catalan side.

If all goes well with Besiktas, Pjanic may seek permanent move to the Turkish side next season.
