Bowlers are very important for any T20 side. IPL is no different. There have been 3 occasions when a Purple Cap holder has also won the IPL that season!

However, there have been many legendary bowlers who have not won the Purple Cap in any season of IPL’s history. Here are 5 such bowlers!

#5 – Sunil Narine

KKR legend Sunil Narine has been a stalwart of the IPL. He has claimed 137 wickets and all of them have come for the men in purple and gold!

Although he’s purple through and through, he’s never won the cap of that colour in a season!

Will we see him get back to his prime again?

#4 – Dale Steyn

The former Protea speedster has been one of the best bowlers of his generation. If not for injuries, he could have ended up with much more Test wickets than he eventually did!

In the IPL, he has claimed 97 wickets at an average of 25.85. But he has never won the Purple Cap in any season for all the teams he has played!

#3 – Jasprit Bumrah

Coming to Indian bowlers, and we have probably the find of the IPL so far – MI ace Jasprit Bumrah! He has so far claimed a brilliant 128 wickets at an average of 23.29.

He has been one of the biggest reasons for Mumbai’s latest IPL triumphs! However, on the personal front, he has never won the Purple Cap till now.

Bumrah still has a good number of years ahead of him, so we’ll hope he gets the coveted Cap on his head in a season!

#2 – Ravichandran Ashwin

DC spinner Ravi Ashwin has had his best seasons for the side belonging to his home state – CSK. He has claimed 143 wickets at an average of 27.87.

He has won 2 IPL titles with CSK, but has never had the opportunity to hold the Purple Cap on his very experienced head!

#1 – Muttiah Muralidaran

The Sri Lankan veteran holds the record for most number of wickets in Test cricket at 800! He is a distant first and it will take a herculean effort for any bowler to surpass this feat!
