Asensio and Benzema score as Real Madrid beat Eibar 2-0 at home; jump to 2nd on the points table


Real Madrid beat Eibar 2-0 at home on Saturday as goals from Asensio and Benzema were enough to seal the points for Los Blancos.

In a pretty dominating performance from the home side, crucial strikes have still kept them in the hunt for a title push.
Real Madrid dominated possession from the offing and almost scored within the first 4 minutes, but Dmitrovic scrambled across to push it wide.
Benzema thought he scored in the very next minute when he headed home from Marcelo’s delivery but the referee deemed it offside.
Asensio took a free kick in the 21st minute but could only manage to hit the crossbar as the ball looped over the outstretched hand of Eibar’s keeper.
Real Madrid once again scored through Asensio as he got a small flick on Isco’s shot which took the ball into the back of the net but VAR intervened and adjudged Asensio to be offside.
The home side finally opened the scoring and no surprises, it was Asensio once more but this time a legal opening goal.
ImageAsensio got the ball off Casemiro and was in space and with Dmitrovic rushing off his line, the forward lifted his effort over the keeper to pick out the bottom corner and deftly put Real Madrid 1-0 up just before half time.
In the second half, it was all Real Madrid as they gathered momentum and pushed for more given, they got the crucial goal needed.

Asensio nearly made it 2-0 but an excellent, strong hand from Dmitrovic tipped the ball over the crossbar to keep it at 1-0 in the 52nd minute.
ImageBenzema, who earlier scored but was deemed offside; sealed the deal in the 73rd minute as he got onto Vinicius’ cross and headed home to put the home side 2-0 up.
The Eibar defenders were drawn towards Vinicius as a result of which opened up the space in the middle which Benzema used by getting a free header on a plate to double the lead and wrap up the points.
Real Madrid has two of the most important home matches coming up this season as they host Liverpool in the 1st leg of the Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday.
The El Clasico follows that on Saturday.
