Arsenal 0-1 Olympiacos: Arabi goal could not help Olympiacos as Arsenal qualify 3-2 on aggregate

An underwhelming performance from Arsenal saw them lose on the night at home 0-1 to Olympiacos but they qualified to the Quarterfinals of the Europe league 3-2 on aggregate.

A solitary strike from Arabi in the 51^st minute was enough for Olympiacos to win the fixture but not enough to win the tie as they crashed out of the Europa League.

The Gunners began proceedings slowly with sloppy passes in the opening stages letting Olympiacos settle into possession.

The Greek side should have gone ahead in the 20^th minute but it was Leno who denied EL-Arabi’s shot with his knee to keep the score line blank.

Aubameyang lashed his over the bar in the 24^th minute to miss his opportunity to put the Gunners in complete control of the tie.

Olympiacos demonstrated no signs of overturning the deficit as both teams went into half time goalless.

The Gunners nearly conceded early in the second half but Fortounis’s shot was dragged wide of the post.

The away side finally found their way back into the tie when EL-Arabi scored in the 51^st minute as his shot took a deflection off Gabriel and went into the back of the net to send Olympiacos into raptures.

Arsenal struggled to keep the ball post the goal and kept inviting pressure but were able to deal with it.

The home side had three chances, two from Ødegaard and one from Aubameyang late on to seal the deal but could not get their shots on target.

Olympiacos ruined their chances off a comeback when a moment of daftness from Ba got himself sent off for 2 bookable offences in the space of few seconds.

The Greek side were then forced to defend for the rest of the game as Arsenal had the man advantage. The Gunners nearly got the equalizer but his shot was saved by Sa with the follow up being over the bar.

Olympiacos kept throwing their men forward despite being down to 10 but it was too little too late as Arsenal held on to get themselves through to the next round.
