Chelsea suffer shock loss to West Bromwich Albion at home 5-2; stay fourth in league table


Mattheus Pereira and Callum Robinson scored twice each as West Bromwich Albion humbled 10-men Chelsea 5-2 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
It was one of the finest performances from an away side at the Bridge as the Baggies deservingly won the contest.

ImageChelsea opened the scoring in the 27th minute as Pulisic reacted quickest to the rebound from Alonso’s free kick to give the hosts the lead.
Alonso curled a brilliant effort at goal which hit the post and fell right into Pulisic’s path on the rebound which the U.S.A national fired home.
But it was bad news a minute later for Chelsea as Thiago Silva, who was returning from his long lay-off due to injury, fouled Yokuslu in an attempt to block his strike.ImageThe Brazilian international have already being booked earlier was given a second yellow card and his marching order as Chelsea were down to 10-men.
It was only going to get bad for the home side having been down to 10-men and in the space of 3 extra minutes before the first half, they were completely done in.

Johnstone played out from the back with a hopeful ball to Pereira, who gambled and made the run behind Zouma only to guide it over the Chelsea keeper to restore parity.
Matthew Phillips came within inches of putting the Baggies ahead but his effort clipped the bar and went over as he cut inside on his left-foot.
It went from bad to worse for Chelsea as Pereira made it 2-1 to the visitors in extra time when he shot through a crowd of Blue shirts to find the bottom-corner with precision.
A well-deserved lead for West Brom as they went into half time 2-1 up.
Alonso had an effort from close range hit the post in the second half with the help of a deflection from Ajayi as he tried to direct his effort at goal.
There were continuous strikes from either end as Chelsea did not let their numerical disadvantage affect them.

Diagne could not resist and scored no four as he provided a crisp strike to beat Mendy.
This was a very well though out goal from the Baggies. Robinson began the charge down the flank before passing to Townsend; who supplied a precise backheel for Pereira.
The Brazilian international slid a pass then to Diagne, who completed the formalities and put West Brom 4-1 up.
Mason Mount pulled one back in the 71st minute to make it 4-2. He finished a cutback from Werner to dispatch into an empty net and give the Blues a lifeline.
ImageBut it was all over when Robinson scored to make it 5-2 when he lifted his strike over Mendy with deftness in the 90th minute.
ImageChelsea was surely affected by the loss of Silva and paid for it due to his pedestrian play in the first half to get sent off and that too on return after a lengthy stay on the sidelines.
The Blues had their chances in the match albeit after being a man down but lacked the cutting edge to make a difference.
Thomas Tuchel’s 14-match unbeaten run as Chelsea boss has ended with this defeat but still Chelsea remain 4th in the league table.
