Decade of Milestones: Captain Kohli’s Journey of UP’s & DOWNS in Test Cricket, Check Out

Decade of Milestones: Captain Kohli’s Journey of UP’s & DOWNS in Test Cricket, Check Out.

Virat Kohli 10 Years in Test: Virat Kohli has been an idol and inspiration to so many Indians. He’s been someone who has revolutionized Indian cricket.

On 20 June 2011, Kohli made his first appearance in the whites for the Indian Cricket Team. He faced only 10 deliveries in the first innings of the Test. At that time no one thought that the boy who was in his early ’20s would take the team to new heights as a captain when he will complete his Test career decade.

Currently, Kohli is aiming for his first ICC trophy as a captain. Kohli will like to make this moment more memorable by scoring his 71st International and 28th Test hundred here in Southampton.

Virat Kohli 10 Years in Test Cricket

Kohli’s first Milestones :

Virat Kohli scored his 1st Test fifty in his fourth match against the West indies. He scored 52 runs while batting on no.6. He scored back-to-back fifties in that match which ended up in a draw.

Virat smashed his maiden hundred back in 2012. He scored 116 runs against Kangaroos on their home soil. India lost that match but Kohli’s performance gives India a positive from the match.

From then he never looks back. Kohli is the sixth highest run-getter in Tests for India over 7,500 runs. Virat is fourth on the list of most century scores in Tests by Indians.

Sachin Tendulkar (51), Rahul Dravid (36) and Sunil Gavaskar are the only three legends who are in front of King Kohli in the tally. Also, he has more number of centuries (27) than half-centuries (25) which stand him out from the crowd.

Virat’s Worst Cricketing Face in the Decade:

Virat Kohli had a painful Test series in 2014 in England, where he couldn’t take a single fifty with him to India. His lack of techniques which need to play swing bowling and utter desperation to score runs were the biggest reasons for his failure in that tour of England.

He finished the Test series with scores of 1, 8, 25, 0, 39, 28, 0, 7, 6, 20 in five Tests with an average of only 13.50 which was definitely not matched to his potential.

After working hard on a technique after making some changes in the technique and with his determination and hard work, he reaped the reward. Only a few months later he smashed four back-to-back hundreds in four Tests Down Under. Also, he has a record of most double centuries (7) for India.

Virat Kohli Emerge As a Test Captain:

It was not like that Virat Kohli has no captaincy experience before appointing him as a Test captain back in 2014. He Captained U-19 team India in the Under-Nineteen World Cup.

Kohli made the captaincy debut in Test for India on 9 Dec 2014 against Australia at Adelaide Oval. Where India lost the series against Aussies by 2-0. Virat scored two Tons in two innings in his captaincy Test debut.

And since then he never looked back, He’s the most successful captain of India. He is only the second who led India in 50 or more Tests and 17th overall. He has won 34 out of 60 matches at a win percentage of (59.01) highest for India and second highest in the world after Ricky Ponting (62.33).
