69 years record broken in Lords

Rohit took a defensive stand in the opening hour. He made a century partnership for the first wicket with KL Rahul. In this rain-interrupted Test match, Rahul was fiercely supporting his fellow opener Rohit at one end.

This is India’s first opening partnership since 1952 at Lord’s. Earlier, India’s opening pair of Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy had a 106-run partnership against England.

Apart from this, this is the fifth time outside Asia in Tests that the openers have played 20 plus more overs. The pair of Rohit and Rahul has become the third opening pair of India to score 100 plus as an opener at this historic ground in Tests.

Rohit and Rahul added 126 runs for the first wicket. For England, the opening pair of former captain Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook shared a 114-run partnership against South Africa at this ground in 2008. Which was the best partnership by an opener.

In this case the second pair was formed.
The Hitman and Rahul pair is the second pair to score 100 plus in the opening Test in England after August 2016. Earlier in the year 2020 at Old Trafford. The pair of Dom Sibley and Rory Burns had a century partnership in the opening for the last time.
