He has played 102 test matches, 5200 runs, 14 centuries. 528 wickets in international cricket. Something like this has been the career of England Cricket Team’s legendary all-rounder Ian Botham.

This legendary player of England won many matches for his team on the basis of ball and bat, but this all-rounder was also surrounded in many controversies.  Let us tell you that August 21 is very special for Ian Botham because on this day 35 years ago this all-rounder made a comeback after the ban.

The return is also such that he has made a world record in his name.  In fact, Ian Botham was banned for 2 months by the England Cricket Board.  The reason for the ban was the drinking of Botham’s ganja (weed).

Drinking cause him problem

In 1986, Ian Botham had admitted to drinking ganja, after which the England and Wales Cricket Board banned him for two months. But after 2 months on 21 August Botham once again stepped on the cricket field.

The match was at The Oval and the opposing team was New Zealand.  The kind of comeback Botham made on the field is no less than a film script.  Botham dismissed Bruce Edgar on his very first ball and then in the next over he also took the wicket of Jeff Crowe.

When Botham left the dog on Gavaskar
Let us tell you that Ian Botham and Sunil Gavaskar used to play county cricket in Somerset as well.  Botham jokingly left a dog on Gavaskar one day.  In fact, Gavaskar was very much afraid of dogs and Botham knew this.  One day Gavaskar was talking at a phone booth and on seeing the opportunity, Botham left the dog outside the booth. Gavaskar stood inside the same booth out of fear and after a great request Botham removed the dog from outside the booth.

Ian Chappell scuffles, threatens to cut his face

Due to the Ashes, there was often a conflict between the players of Australia and England. Former Australian captain Ian Chappell and Botham never got along.

In the year 1976-77, the England team was on a tour of Australia and during this time Botham and Ian Chappell had a fight. Botham punched Chappell inside the bar and then followed him.

A week later Botham and Chappell fought again.  Botham even threatened Chappell to cut his face with a glass tumbler.  In the year 2012, both of these legends also clashed outside the Adelaide ground and both of them grabbed each other’s throats.
