EPL- Giroud and Werner’s goals help Chelsea to beat Newcastle United 2-0, make it to top four

Olivier Giroud and Mason Mount’s goals in the first half strode Chelsea to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Monday as Thomas Tuchel registers another win as Chelsea boss, his fourth in 5 games.

Giroud came on as a substitute for Abraham and impacted proceedings within a quick span of time as he pounced on the loose ball when Werner shot was saved by the keeper, falling into the French international’s path only for him to lash it in for 1-0.

Werner made it 2-0 in the 39th minute when he pounced on the loose ball off a corner at the far post to register his 1st goal for his new club.

Kepa was made to come into action but he was put to task to save a freekick by Shelvey and a header from Willock in the second half. Reece James had a shot at goal well blocked by Darlow to keep it down to 2-0.

With this win, Chelsea moves up to 4th position with 42 points and are in contention for a Champions League spot whereas Newcastle United are 7 points off the relegation zone but will need to get their act together in order to avoid a drop this season as the Premier League reaches its climax.

The Blues now face Southampton at St. Mary’s on the 20th February while Newcastle play Manchester United in a tough fixture at Old Trafford on Monday, 21st February.
