Manchester City continued their excellent form as they beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park with goals from Foden, Mahrez and Silva to make it 17 straight wins in all competitions.
City dominated the first half hour but had nothing to show for. It was in the 32nd minute that Foden’s strike took a massive deflection of Coleman and went in to give the visitors the lead. Everton restored parity five minutes later when the ball hit the post from Digne’s strike before it bounced straight onto the thigh of Richarlison and in.
Bernardo Silva set up Mahrez who struck a brilliant curving left footer which went in off the post to make it 2-1 in the 63rd minute and then Silva with a 77th minute strike which went in via Pickford’s right glove to seal the deal as City went 10 points clear.
City are looking the real deal and do not seem to stop anytime soon. It is going to take something special to stop Pep’s side from mauling teams along the way.
A thorough, confident performance has now got City unbeaten in 24 games across all competitions and they have secured 12 consecutive wins in the Premier League.
While City are table toppers, Everton have slipped to 7th position in the league table and with the Merseyside derby on Saturday, this was not the build-up they needed.
City have a home fixture against Arsenal on Sunday as they look to make it 18 wins across all competitions this season before heading to Budapest for their Round of 16 clash against Borussia Monchengladbach next week.
