EPL- Manchester United held 1-1 against West Bromwich Albion, reach second position on the league table

Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion to increase the gap between them and Manchester City to 7 points in the table.

City with a game in hand have 53 points from 23 games whereas Manchester United have accumulated 46 points from 24 games. Consecutive draws against Everton and West Brom at a crucial time in the season has jolted their charge.

West Brom started the game with energy and desire as they took the lead in the 2nd minute when Gallagher’s cross was headed in by Diagne. The defending for the 1st goal was slightly suspect from Lindelof as Diagne was able to outmuscle him in a manner he will not be pleased by.

United struck back a minute before half time as Bruno Fernandes scored a brilliant volley with his weaker foot with the assist credited to Luke Shaw.

Fernandes has now scored 14 goals for Manchester United this season in the league but this was not enough on the day as the resolute defending of West Brom kept the Red Devils at bay.

In the second half, Mctominay and Greenwood had effort cleared off the line.

Diagne had 2 chances for his second of the night but was denied by De Gea from close range after going past Maguire followed by blazing over from another close-range effort.

United kept throwing bodies forward but were not clinical enough in their display. Maguire had a chance to seal the deal but Sam Johnstone denied him as he tipped Maguire’s headed effort onto the post in extra time to hold on.

Manchester United cannot afford to drop more points if they want to fight for the title this season. West Brom stay 19th and still have a lot to do to stay in the Premier League.
