EPL Result: Arsenal held by Fulham 1-1 at home, stay ninth on table


Arsenal salvaged a point at home against Fulham 1-1 with a late equalizer from Nketiah as Arteta’s men stay ninth in the table.
The Gunners dominated proceedings but could not maximize their opportunities. With this draw, Arsenal have in all certainty lost their hopes of a top four finish.
ImageMaja’s spot kick sent the visitors 1-0 ahead before an equalizer in the seventh minute of added time from Nketiah helped Arsenal salvage a point.
Fulham’s goal was their only shot in target in the entire match which shows just how wasteful Arsenal were by their standards.
Areola was called into action in the 7th minute itself to deny Martinelli’s strike at goal.
Ceballos’ strike was ruled out by VAR due to Saka being offside in the build up to the goal.
In the second half, Saka’s strike hit the post to deny Arsenal the lead.
Gabriel then stuck out a leg and fouled Lemina in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.
VAR took a long look and eventually stood with the referee’s decision.
ImageMaja converted from the spot to send the visitors 1-0 ahead and provide a life-line to Fulham.
Bellerin narrowly missed his chance within a matter of minutes as his header went just wide of the post.
Areola made two stunning saves of Pepe and Martinelli to keep Fulham in the contest.
ImageBut it was not to be for Fulham as Arsenal finally scored to make it 1-1.
Ceballos’ shot was initially saved by Areola from a corner. But Nketiah scored off the rebound from close range.
It was too little too late as Fulham held on to further deepen Arsenal’s misery as it finished 1-1 at the Emirates.
