EPL Result: Arsenal produce thrilling comeback to draw 3-3 against West Ham United, rise to 9th in the points table


Arsenal produced a thrilling comeback from 0-3 down to finish with a 3-3 draw against West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Lingard opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Bowen made it 2-0 to the Hammers within a minute. Soucek’s touch of a well taken header by Antonio got them 3-0 up only for Arsenal to produce a comeback.
Two own goals from Soucek and Dawson in the 38th and 61st minute gave Arsenal a dash of confidence and it turned to reality when Lacazette headed home in the 82nd minute to complete one of the best comebacks in the history of the Premier League.

West Ham United began proceedings in the first half the much brighter side as they pinned the Gunners down in their won half with plenty of crosses in the box.
Soucek had his moment in the 10th minute but he glanced Antonio’s cross narrowly wide of the post.

Bowen made it 2-0 in the next minute when he drilled a    low finish from Lingard’s quick pass.
Thomas Soucek, one of West Ham’s best players this season, tripled the score line when he got the slightest of touches to Antonio’s cross to send the Hammers into ecstasy.
Arsenal were shell shocked from the onslaught by the Hammers and needed a glimmer of hope to get things back on track and they did so Soucek scored an own goal with the slightest of touches from Lacazette’s strike.
Saka nearly made it 3-2 but his shot was saved by Fabianski.
In the second half, it was an Arsenal riot at the London Stadium. Lacazette nearly scored the second but Diop cleared the ball off the line to deny him.
The consistency pressure and attacks from Arsenal rewarded them when Dawson scored an own goal, his second in two matches; the ball was fizzed into the box but Dawson could not have done better as it struck him and flew in for an unfortunate second own goal.
ImageØdegaard ran the show in the second half with thrilling touches and exquisite passes as he kept Arsenal in the contest throughout with a display of character.
Event imageAntonio could have sealed the game with his strike from point blank range but was denied by the post as he could not guide Benrahma’s square ball into the net.
ImageThe persistence from the Gunners was complete when Lacazette headed in Pepe’s inch perfect cross to complete the comeback and make it 3-3. A goal deserving to be the comeback goal.
It was the perfect weighted cross which sealed the deal. Rice had his moment when he ran from defense with the ball and nearly scored but Leno’s smart save denied him. This being the last opportunity.
West Ham United at such an important stage of the season have dropped points owing to this thriller for a comeback which could dash their chances of a top 4 finish.
Moyes was bemused at the final whistle as he could not believe that his side conceded a 3-0 advantage.
The Hammers, with this draw stay at 5th with 49 points whereas Arsenal rise to 9th for the time being with 42 points.
