EPL Result: Dawson’s own goal enough as Manchester United win 1-0 against West Ham United, move to second on the points table


Manchester United moved to second place in the Premier League table courtesy a 1-0 win against the resilient, plucky West Ham United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Craig Dawson’s own goal gave the Red Devils the defining goal they needed to pocket all three points.
Manchester United dominating proceedings throughout with West Ham United offering very little in the final third.
Marcus Rashford missed a sitter in the first half when he glanced his header wide of the left post.
Fabianski was called into action when he made a terrific save to tip Greenwood’s low shot onto the post to keep the score line at 0-0.

Resilience and bravery were the order of the day from West Ham United as they sat back and soaked in all the pressure from the United attack without offering any shots of their own.
ImageIn the 53rd minute, Dawson’s own goal gave the home side the lead when he inadvertently turned the ball from Bruno’s cross into the back of the net.
ImageOnce the goal was scored, Manchester United eased into the game and better much more fluent.
Greenwood struck the post in the 77th minute once again as he tried to get his name on the scoresheet with a clean strike.

The game finished 1-0 in favor of the home side as West Ham United could not muster a single shot on target during the contest and could very little in the final third to bring United’s no 1, Henderson into action.
West Ham stay 5th in the table with 48 points after this loss and have an important home fixture against Arsenal next Sunday.
The Red Devils travel to AC Milan for the 2nd leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie on Thursday before facing Leicester City in the FA Cup on 21st March.
