‘Group of Death’ POR, GER, FRA, All favorite teams out of Euro 2020; check out


Euro 2020 Group of Death: The Euro 2020 Group of Death or Group F has surprised everyone with all 4 teams exiting the tournament before the Quarter-finals.

Portugal, France, Germany and Hungary were part of this group.

Hungary put in defining performances throughout the group stage but were unlucky to miss out and exited before the knockouts.

Strong and potent teams such as Portugal, France and Germany were expected to last the distance for the remainder of this competition but were eliminated soon.

Portugal

ImageA Seleção finished third in Group F after picking up a win, loss and draw in their respective matches against Hungary, Germany and France.

The Ronaldo-led side faced Belgium in the Round of 16 and we had an exciting prospect on our hands.

Thorgan Hazard scored a peach of a goal and secured a 1-0 win over the reigning champions, which knocked them out of the tournament.

For all the might in the Portugal squad, it was once again all down to their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo to do the talking.

CR7 scored 5 goals in the tournament and was the only consistent factor of positivity along with Renato Sanches in the line-up.

Renato put in major shifts and was able to influence the matches whenever he stepped onto the pitch.

The Portuguese side lacked the cutting edge and rued missed opportunities due to which, they saw the exit door soon.

Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Joao Felix to name a few were players coming off good domestic seasons.

But could not step up during the Euro 2020 due to which the team suffered.

France

ImageFrance was touted as one of the contenders of the competition but were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Switzerland.

Les Bleus finished table toppers and progressed with a win and 2 draws to the next round.

The French side began to show their brilliance against Switzerland but ultimately lost due to an Mbappé penalty miss.

Deschamps’ men came across a resilient Swiss side who put them to the test.

Switzerland came back from 3-1 down to take the game into Extra time, penalties; where they achieved success as Sommer’s save off Mbappé dashed France’s dreams.

Germany

ImageThe Germans qualified as runners-up of Group F with a loss, win and draw from their three matches.

Low’s men came up against a spirited England in the Round of 16 and succumbed.

Germany lacked quality in the final third and lost 2-0 against England, which finished their campaign.

Neuer and Co lacked consistency and apart from the Portugal match, could not dominate the other matches.

This was another reason for Die Mannschaft exit from the Euro 2020.
