Bayern losing to Paris Saint Germain 3-2 at home on Wednesday brought an end to their 19-match unbeaten streak in the UEFA Champions League.

The Bayern side minus Lewandowski was not able to topple over Mbappé and Co as they slipped to their first Champions League defeat since losing to Liverpool in the round of 16 stage in the 2018-19 season.

Ajax went through a 19-match unbeaten run between September 1994 and March 1996 which included lifting the 1995 Champions League trophy.

The Louis Van Gaal led side went through the 1994-95 Champions League season unbeaten and became undisputed Champions.

In defending the title, the streak ended with a shock loss against Panathinaikos FC in the semi finals 1^st leg of the 1995-96 season.

BAYERN MUNICH

The Bavarians went through a 19-match unbeaten streak from March 2001- April 2002 and which included lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2001.

Ottmar Hirzfeld’s side began their streak after a 3-0 loss to Lyon and it finally ended in defending their title in 2002 with a quarter final loss to Real Madrid.

They repeated the streak once again under Hansi Flick from September 2019-April 2021 which ended against Paris Saint-Germain as mentioned above.

This includes winning the 2020 UEFA Champions League trophy beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final 1-0.

The run of 19 matches included 18 victorious and a solitary 1-1 stalemate against Atlético Madrid this season.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United hold the top spot for having being unbeaten for the most matches in the competition’s history.

The Red Devils went unbeaten for 25 matches from September 2007-May 2009, which included lifting the elusive silverware in 2008 after beating Chelsea.

The streak was finally over in May 2009 when they lost to Barcelona in the final of the 2008-09 season.
