Harbhajan Singh confirms his retirement from all forms of cricket

Harbhajan Singh Retirement: Harbhajan Singh, who was once a star off-spinner and match-winning bowler of Team India, has now retired. Even on sports, he announced his retirement from the illustrious career that has been going on for the last 23 years in Indian cricket.

In such a situation, Harbhajan (Bhajji) who was given the name of Turbanator in the cricket world. He gave water to the batsmen all over the world with his revolving spin bowling. In which the Australian team was mainly involved.

Harbhajan wreaked havoc against Australia, considered to be the strongest team of that era, and whenever he faced kangaroos. Bhajji came forward and bowled magically for Team India.

This is the reason that in his career of 23 years, he played cricket for 24 teams and made many records in his name. Let’s have a look at the record book of Harbhajan’s career :–

95 wickets taken against Australia 

Harbhajan’s favorite team was Australia and whenever he used to bowl against the strongest team of that time, he used to put a lot of wickets. Bhajji played 18 Test matches against Australia and took 95 wickets in his 35 innings. Which is much more than any other country. After Australia, he has taken 60 Test wickets against South Africa.

Harbhajan, the first Indian off-spinner to take 400 wickets

He played 103 Test matches for India and has taken more than 400 wickets. Not only this, he is also the first Indian bowler to reach this position as an off-spinner for India. Apart from this, Bhajji is also the only Indian bowler to take 400 Test wickets at the age of 31 years and 4 days.

Whereas in the case of accomplishing this feat in the world, only Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan is ahead of him, who touched the 400 mark at the age of 29 years 273 days.

Taking 32 wickets in 3 Tests,  Bhajji also holds the record for taking most wickets in a three-match Test series. Which no one has been able to break till date. Bhajji took 32 wickets in the Test series against Australia in 2001.

Hat-trick in Kolkata

Year 2001 itself, Bhajji took a hat-trick against Australia in Kolkata, which was the first hat-trick for India in Test cricket. After Bhajji, Irfan Pathan took a hat-trick in Karachi Test against Pakistan in 2006 and after him Jasprit Bumrah has also shown this feat.

In this way only three bowlers have been able to do this in the history of Indian cricket. While he is still the first Indian spinner to take a Test hat-trick. Irfan and Bumrah are both fast bowlers.

Even in batting, the name of Bhajji  Bhajji, where there are excellent records in bowling. At the same time, in batting too, he has made a special name in Test cricket.

Bhajji has scored two consecutive centuries while batting at number 8 in Test cricket and he is the only Indian cricketer to do so. In 2010, Bhajji played an innings of 115 and 111 not out against New Zealand in the Ahmedabad and Hyderabad Tests respectively.

Talking about the total wickets of Harbhajan Bhajji in Test, ODI and T20, ahead of Kapil Dev, he has 711 wickets in his name. He occupies the 13th place in this list. Whereas Kapil Dev, who won India’s first World Cup, is in 16th place with a total of 687 wickets. In this case, Harbhajan is even ahead of Dale Steyn of South Africa. He is in 15th place. Whereas in this list, Muralitharan occupies the first place with 1347 wickets.

Bhajji, who was expert in trapping batsmen through stumping, Harbhajan is the third spinner in the world to have caught batsmen in the trap of stumping most times as a spin bowler. In his career, he has made 54 batsmen a victim of stumping in 367 matches including Test, ODI and T20.

In which case he is the first Indian spinner to send 50 or more batsmen to the pavilion through stumping. At the forefront of this list is Muralitharan, who sent 104 batsmen to the pavilion through stumping. After that Shane Warne has shown the way to the pavilion by stumping 86 batsmen.

Talking about Harbhajan’s bowling in the name of Harbhajan, the best spin bowling strike rate in the world, he had shown the way to the pavilion to five batsmen in 4.3 overs i.e. 27 balls in a Test match against West Indies in 2006. During this his strike rate was 5.4. Which is not of any spinner in the world. However, there are two fast bowlers ahead of him in this list.

In which Australia’s Ernest Raymond Herbert Toshak is there, his strike rate was 3.8. He took 5 wickets for 2 runs in 2.3 overs (when there were 8 balls in an over) against India at the Brisbane ground in the year 1947. After this comes the name of Jacques Kallis, who took 5 wickets for 21 runs in 4.3 overs equal to Harbhajan. His strike rate was also 5.4.
