I admire and have lot of respect for AEW’s Kenny Omega, says Daniel Bryan.

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan was recently interviewed by Robbie Fox on his My Mom’s Basement podcast. During the session, the former WWE champion spoke in depth about Kenny Omega following the match they had in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in 2009. In which they performed a comedy segment based on the children’s song John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.

“First of all, you have to think that the Kenny Omega of that moment is not the Kenny Omega of now,” Bryan explained (transcript courtesy of Wrestling Inc.). “I think if we did it now, if you announced Daniel Bryan against Kenny Omega or Bryan Danielson against Kenny Omega, and we gave them the John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt piece, it wouldn’t work.

People wouldn’t be happy. But at the time, he was pretty less known than it is now. I remember we were in a hotel and I don’t remember if he brought it up or not, but we started joking about it. And I took it as a joke, but he said ‘what if do we do it? ‘and I was like’ what are you trying to tell me? ‘

Bryan also expressed that he greatly admires Omega’s point of view of wrestling and his way of understanding the sport: “I have a lot of respect for Kenny Omega, and it is not only for the great matches he offers, it is also because he sees the wrestling of a differently than anyone else.

When you look at, for example, The Young Bucks, who you might think similarly about. You can see what The Young Bucks approach to wrestling. It’s like a cool version of wrestling that they liked it. When they were little, and trying to imitate it, but also evolve from that.

I think that’s why the way they fight has an impact on a lot of people. With Kenny, no. It doesn’t have a previous point of evolution. just completely new things that crossed his mind and that he dares to try. ”

Bryan then returned to the topic of the PWG match, revealing that he was not sure that audiences would react positively to the nursery rhyme segment. “When I finally agreed to do it, it was like. Bryan says he remember getting backstage, I don’t remember anything else from the match,” Bryan commented.

“I know the rest was good, but I don’t know anything about it. Just remember the John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt part. And the audience. I wasn’t convinced it was going to work. I was like ‘do people still know this song? ‘And we did it and people went crazy. I loved it. ”

In order to promote his podcast, Robbie Fox yesterday published a short video extracted from the interview fragment. In which Bryan expresses his respect and admiration for Omega.

The All Elite Wrestling World Champion only took a few hours to comment on it, commenting on Fox’s tweet with “he gets it. Imagine it, right?”
