Ind vs Eng, 1st Test: England wins the first test match of Ind vs England test series by 227 runs.
It’s not even a month when India conquered Australia in their backyard. While India was busy celebrating the win, England was quietly assessing the Asian pitches in Sri Lanka. India started this 4 match test series against England as favorites, though the result of the 1st encounter between the two test giants might suggest another story. England has been continuously bossing over India in the last five days. Session after session, England’s grip on the match only bolstered further.
As for India, this is their first defeat at home in 4 years.
Fourth straight defeat under Kohli’s captaincy. (If you find yourself in debates of Kohli vs Rahane, don’t act surprised).
Also, Kohli’s 10th loss while chasing more than 150 runs in the fourth innings of test matches.
What all went wrong:
1- India played without any concrete plans against Joe Root. Root played a sensational knock of 218 runs, because of which England posted a mammoth score of 578 runs in 1st innings.
2- Did India miss a trick in selections by not picking up Kuldeep Yadav? Shahbaaz Nadeem got to play over Kuldeep Yadav in the first test match. Nadeem has yet to find his form in the white jersey. Getting not enough matches, sometimes hamper players’ confidence.
3- Senior players like Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane should have been more responsible.
ICC Test Championship qualifying scenario: India needs to win at least two of the remaining three test matches in the series. At the moment India stands at 4th on the points table meanwhile, England stands at the top of the points table.
