The Punjab Kings had a 4-year cycle to forget, from the year 2018 ending into 2021. They were one team who constantly chopped and changed, and therefore always flattered to deceive. They failed to make the playoffs in any of these 4 seasons.
With the new cycle upon us, the Punjab outfit does not have a lot of players they would like to retain. In addition, it is almost certain that KL Rahul, their current captain, will also be a part of the Mega Auction.
With all these caveats in mind, let’s pick the 4 players who we think PBKS can retain:
#4 – Mayank Agarwal
Apart from KL Rahul, he has been the other shining light of this franchise. Since the 2018 season, he has scored 1,317 runs in 47 matches, out of which 865 have come in the last two seasons at an average of almost 40!
Surely the Punjab Kings would not want to let the Karnataka opener go, as he’s currently in the form of his life!
#3 – Ravi Bishnoi
He has won everyone’s hearts with his leg spin, and the immense talent he possesses. In the 23 matches that he has played for the Punjab Kings, he has claimed 24 wickets at an average of 25.25 and an economy of under 7 runs an over!
These are brilliant stats for a young upstart like him. To add to this, he is also a gun fielder! With Anil Kumble most likely continuing to be at the helm of the franchise, we expect the young leggie to be retained and nurtured by the legend himself!

#2 – Mohammed Shami
This is really a no-brainer. An experienced Indian fast bowler is always worth his weight in gold! He’s been a part of the Punjab setup since the 2019 season, and has claimed 58 wickets in 42 games for them with an economy which is a touch on the higher side.
We expect Shami to continue with the Kings in the next cycle as well.
#1 – Aiden Markram
For their foreigner slot, he seems the only viable option. Although he hasn’t played a lot of games for the Kings, Markram is in great form in T20Is of late! In 19 innings for South Africa, he has scored 536 runs at an average of almost 36 and a SR of almost 143!
He can prove to be a great all-rounder for the Kings, as his part-time off-spin is more than handy at times, and can be used to take crucial breakthroughs.
