The Japanese side picked up an opening day win over South Africa on Thursday with Kubo’s second half strike enough to make the difference as they won 1-0.

On the other hand, Mexico made a statement with an emphatic 4-1 win over France in their opening day match on Thursday.

Goals from Vega, Cordova, Antuna and Aguirre secured a thumping win for Mexico as France were helpless.

The French side pulled one back through Gignac’s penalty but it proved to be a mere consolation goal.

These two sides last met each other in the 2012 Olympics semi-final where Mexico won 3-1 with Fabian, Peralta and Cortés found the back of the net.

Hence, Otsu’s first half goal proved to be unimportant in the final scheme of the result.

It will be an interesting watch as both sides have the momentum following wins in their first matches.

Line-ups

Japan:

Tani, Sakai, Yoshida, Itakura, Nakayama, Tanaka, Endo, Doan, Kubo, Miyoshi and Hayashi.

Mexico:

Ochoa, Sanchez, Montes, Vasquez, Aguirre, Rodriguez, Romo, Cordova, Lainez, Martin and Vega.

Prediction: Japan 1-3 Mexico

Both sides won their opening clashes and have the momentum in their stride, but Mexico look to be in better shape and rhythm after a win against an impressive French side.

We foresee Mexico winning this one which sends them to the knockouts of this competition.
