Liverpool beat Man Utd: Liverpool beat Manchester United 4-2 at Old Trafford on Friday to provide a massive boost to their top 4 hopes.

Jota and Salah on either side of Firmino’s brace for the visitors. Bruno and Rashford scored for United.

FIRST HALF

Manchester United began the game sharply and almost scored within the first 5 minutes after a poor pass out of the box from Allison.

But Cavani dragged his shot wide as the keeper breathed a sigh of relief.

United broke the deadlock in the 10^th minute with Bruno Fernandes scoring via a diversion from Phillips into his own net.

Bruno tried to whip his out with the outside of the right foot but the ball took a huge deflection off Phillips and went in to give United the lead.

This was his 28th goal of the season across all competitions.

Liverpool showed no signs of panic and picked up possession, got themselves into the game.

The referee gave a penalty to the visitors as he felt Bailly fouled Phillips but with VAR’s help the decision was overturned.

Jota tested Henderson for the first time in the match but the United number 1 tipped the ball over the bar with a good save.

The visitors equalized from the resulting corner as Jota flicked home for 1-1.

Phillips’ shot was going wide but Jota reacted quickly via a backheel to score.

Liverpool took the lead and made it 2-1 in extra time through Firmino’s header.

Alexander Arnold’s freekick evaded everyone until it reached Firmino at the far post, who headed past Henderson.

This signaled the end of the half as Liverpool went in 2-1 ahead.

SECOND HALF

Liverpool began the second half in the most perfect way possible as Firmino doubled his tally for the night to make it 3-1.

A defensive lapse from Shaw ensured Arnold had the ball and shot at goal. Henderson spilt the ball straight into Firmino’s path, who scored from close range.

Jota could have won the match in the 59^th minute, but he rattled the post from close range to miss.

United pulled one back through Rashford for 3-2 with 22 minutes to play.

Rashford took Cavani’s pass into his stride before rolling the ball past Allison.

The home side could have equalized soon after but Greenwood saw his shots blocked at close range.

Manchester United tried to get it to 3-3 but their play became frantic but in final third which Liverpool took advantage.

United lost the ball in midfield as Salah latched onto Jones’s pass.

He stayed onside and raced onto the ball before curling home past Henderson for 4-2 in the 90^th minute.

This was his 200^th match for the Reds and sealed it with a goal.

This was the clincher as Liverpool beat Man Utd 4-2 in favor of Liverpool that saw them pocket the points.

In totality, it was the deserving result for Liverpool as they were the much better side on the night and beat Man Utd.

United has lost successive home matches but remain 2^nd in the points table. Liverpool rose to 5^th and still keep their top 4 hopes alive as they remain 4 points behind Chelsea.
