Man City beat Newcastle: Torres scores hat-trick as City win a thriller 4-3


Man City beat Newcastle: Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick as City beat Newcastle 4-3 at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday.
Cancelo scored the opener for City followed by a Torres hat-trick. Krafth, Joelinton and Willock scored for the hosts.

FIRST HALF
Manchester City dominated early possession as the hosts sat deep to soak up the pressure.
It was not until the 17th minute, when City tested the Newcastle goal through Cancelo.
But Dubravka made a good save to clear the danger.
ImageThe visitors continued to dominate possession but it was the hosts who took the surprise lead through Krafth.
The Swedish international rose the highest to Shelvey’s corner kick and thumped a header home for 1-0.
Shelvey could have made it 2-0 soon enough but his free-kick cannoned off the cross bar.
ImageManchester City equalized at the stroke of 40 minutes to make it 1-1 through Cancelo.
The Portuguese’s low shot took a massive deflection off Murphy before going in as Dubravka could not do much.
ImageTorres flicked home from Gündogan’s free kick with a sumptuous and beautiful piece of skill to give City a 2-1 lead.
There was late drama once again in extra time as Newcastle made it 2-2 through a penalty from Joelinton.
Aké fouled the Brazilian in the box with a sliding tackle and caught his right foot.
The referee initially pulled up Maximin for an offside in the build-up, but VAR intervened and overturned the decision.
ImageA penalty was awarded for the foul which Joelinton hammered home to equalize for the hosts.
It was end to end stuff as we reached the half with the score-line at 2-2.

SECOND HALF
The second began with City continuing to hold the lion share of possession.
But once again Newcastle got their noses back into the contest with a penalty as Walker fouled Willock inside the box.
ImageWillock took the penalty and missed as Carson made an excellent save, but managed to slide home on the rebound to make it 3-2.
City did not take long to get it back on level terms as Torres scored his second of the night to make it 3-3.
Jesus’s drilled cross was met by Torres, who drilled home from close range with a deft touch.

Torres completed his hattrick in the 66th minute as the visitors made it 4-3.
Cancelo’s initial shot hit the post but Torres did brilliantly and scored on the rebound to take the advantage.
The visitors saw out the rest of the match and the match concluded as Man City beat Newcastle 4-3.

It was an open match with neither defence looking comfortable.
Newcastle scored all their goals on the break with pace and creativity, while City’s resilience came to the fore.
They were never down and out at any moment and kept knocking at the door.
Newcastle remain 16th in the table and are safe from relegation with the three victims already relegated.
City continue their march as champions and take a 13 point lead over 2nd placed, Manchester United.
