Mexico eliminated from the WC 2022 despite beating Saudi Arabia 2-1 in Group C decider

Mexico 2-1 Saudi Arabia: It was a sad day for Mexico fans as they beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 in their final Group C match only to be eliminated from the competition.

Martin and Chavez scored for the Mexican side in the 2nd half before a late Al-Dawsari effort ensured one back for Saudi Arabia. The game was back and forth with Mexico having more share of the game.

The CONCACAF side has 26 shots as opposed to Saudi’s 10 but couldn’t manage the extra kick in the final third despite the two goals.

Martin broke the deadlock as he tapped home from close range from Montes’ cross before Chaves doubled the lead with an exceptional free-kick.

In the urge to get more goals, Mexico left space at the back which Saudi used well towards the end with Al-Dawsari coolly slotting past Ochoa.

The result ensured Mexico a third place finish behind Poland with 4 points but an inferior goal difference.
