Modric’s Croatia stun Brazil by winning 4-2 on penalties; qualify for semi-finals of WC 2022

Croatia beat Brazil: Croatia stuns Brazil as 2018 runners-up beat Brazil 4-2 on penalties to qualify for the semi-finals of the World Cup 2022.

Livakovic’s MOM display saw him make 11 saves during regulation time before stopping Rodrygo’s penalty strike to ensure Croatia win. This was the first time Brazil lost a World Cup penalty shootout since 1986.

Croatia showed immense guts and desire through the contest as they held Brazil back on several occasions. Livakovic made 11 saves to deny the Brazilians a shot at goal.

The game went back and forth throughout before Neymar finally broke the deadlock in the 105th minute when he danced through Croatia’s defence before keeping the composure to stroke it past Livakovic.

This was Neymar’s 77th international goal, which equaled Pele’s record for most goals for the nation.

ImageCroatia did not give up and showcased character in the 117th minute when Petkovic slotted home from Marquinhos’ massive deflection to equalize.

Croatia scored 4 out of 4 in the spot-kicks while Rodrygo and Marquinhos missed for the South American nation.

With that result, Brazil’s winless run at World Cup finals stretched to 20 years since 2002 while Croatia managed to qualify on penalties after their success over Japan in the RO 16.

Croatia is in Semi-Finals, where they face the winner of Argentina or Netherlands.
