Ronaldo and Benzema score as Portugal draw 2-2 against France; check out


Portugal 2-2 France: Portugal drew 2-2 against France in their last Group F match at the Puskas Arena on Wednesday in the Euro 2020 and reach RO 1.

Ronaldo and Benzema scored a brace each for their sides as both sides shared a point and qualified for the Round of 16.

It was a record-breaking night for Cristiano Ronaldo as he created 2 records on the night.

FIRST HALF

France kicked off the first half but it was Portugal, who saw more of the ball in the initial minutes.

Neither team pushed forward with much attack intent.

However, France has the first shot on goal as Mbappe’s effort was excellently saved by Rui Patricio to deny Les Bleus the opener.

Portugal received a penalty in the 27th minute after France captain, Hugo Lloris for a challenge on Danilo in the box.

The keeper looked to punch the ball from Moutinho’s cross but got a bit of the defender as well.

France needed to get back into the contest but their opponents looked the more confident unit post scoring.

A Seleção were more aggressive due to their quick passing and switch in play.

As we reached the end of the half, France was awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute for a collision between Semedo and Mbappé.

The Frenchman tried to get to the end of Pogba’s ball but instead collided with Semedo.

It was too soft a call but VAR agreed and awarded France with the spot-kick.

ImageKarim Benzema dispatched the penalty with confidence and sent Patricio the wrong way to make it 1-1.

This was the last action of an intriguing and entertaining half with the score at 1-1.

SECOND HALF

France started the second off in the best manner possible as Benzema scored in the 47th minute to send France 2-1 ahead.

ImageHe latched onto Pogba’s excellent through ball and fired home off the post to score his second of the night.

The referee initially ruled out the goal for offside but VAR overruled the decision.

It was end-to-end and had good pace to it, as Portugal pushed forward in search of the equalizer.

Ronaldo once again stepped up and fired home to make it 2-2. This was also the Portugal captain’s 109th goal for the country.

With this strike, he equaled the record of Ali Daei for most international goals scored.

Patricio came to the rescue once again as he made a brilliant save from Pogba’s effort to deny the Frenchman.

The match lost its pace towards the end as both sides looked to see out the minutes.
