Rafael Nadal starts of French Open 2021 campaign with a win, moves to second round

Rafael Nadal starts of French Open 2021 campaign with a win, moves to second round.

Rafael Nadal laid the first stone of the conquest of his fourteenth Roland Garros, to total 21 ‘greats’, by defeating Australian Alexei Popyrin by 6-3, 6-2 and 7-6 (3), in 2 hours and 23 minutes .

After a placid start, the Spaniard complicated the game in the third set, when he gave up his serve and had to lift two set balls, the second to the point of candy for his rival.

“It has been more difficult than it seems against a great rival, I am very happy with the victory and to return to this track one more year ,  said Rafael Nadal, surprised by the way in which he scored the first two sets despite the power of your rival’s game.

Rafael Nadal will be measured in the second round against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who got rid of his compatriot Hugo Gaston, invited by the organizers, 6-1, 6-4 and 6-2.

The second round will see the 17th duel between Nadal and Gasquet, two tennis players of the same generation to whom they gave a parallel career for years, but which time has shown very differently.

The Frenchman has never beaten the Mallorcan, who surpassed him in 2005 en route to his first trophy in Paris and again in 2018, when Nadal was chasing the eleventh.
