Ravichandran Ashwin Retires Out: Ashwin becomes the 1st player in IPL history to retired out; Know Why

Ravichandran Ashwin Retires Out: The Indian Premier League (IPL) was started in 2008. The team that won the first season was Rajasthan Royals.

This same team used a rule in the 14-15 year history of the league which is in the rules book but it was never used. In the 20th match of IPL 2022 against Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan retired Ravichandran Ashwin after 18.2 overs at the crease.

Many wondered whether Ashwin was hurt. But it was not so, in fact, in case of injury, the batsman is retired hurt. Rather, in this case the batsman is retired out.

Both the rules are different and there is a difference between the two. Retired hurt is done when a batsman is injured while batting, but retired out is entirely dependent on the decision of the backend staff of the batting team.

Difference between retired hurt and retired out?

In the case of both these rules, you can often get confused. In both the cases the batsman has to leave the crease and go back. But retired hurt is used in case of injury and retired out can be done by the batting team at any time.

The biggest difference between the two is that in case of retired hurt, the batsman can come back to bat. But after being retired, the batsman cannot come out to bat again.

If we talk about this match, then Rajasthan’s score was four wickets for 67 runs at one time. At that time, the team did not send young player Riyan Parag and sent Ravichandran Ashwin to support Hetmyer.

Ashwin’s name is counted among the star all-rounders of Test. He also has five Test centuries to his name. After this, Ashwin proved this decision right and he added an unbeaten 68 for the fifth wicket with Hetmyer.

After this, after 18.2 overs, Rajasthan Royals retired Ashwin and sent Riyan Parag in his place. Which was a wonderful decision. Ashwin was dropped when the wicket was to be saved.

After he fulfilled his responsibility, he was called back and Parag was sent in the slog over. Ashwin scored a crucial 28 off 23 balls which included two sixes.

After this Parag scored 8 runs in 4 balls at a strike rate of 200. Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 59 from the other end and took the team’s score to 165.
