SA vs IND: 3 Reasons Why BCCI’s Miscommunication With Virat Kohli Is Not Healing the Current Scenario

BCCI vs Virat Kohli: India’s Test Captain Virat Kohli provided some insights yesterday to the sudden change in ODI captaincy. This has opened a can of worms showing how poorly the BCCI has handled the whole situation.

Here are 3 reasons why we feel the miscommunication between the BCCI and Virat Kohli is not helping anyone’s cause, let alone Indian cricket:

#3 – No Clarity

There is no clarity provided on any statement/media release from the Board. The ODI captaincy shift from Kohli to Rohit was announced as a mere footnote to India’s squad announcement in their tour to South Africa.

The fans demanded answers but didn’t get any. The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly then informed the media that the Board held a discussion with Kohli before removing him.

This shouldn’t have been explained after the fact, and instead should’ve been a proper announcement in and by itself. Kohli had been India’s ODI captain since the start of 2017, surely he deserved a better send-off?

#2 – Hasty Decision-Making

Kohli in the press conference yesterday has told that the BCCI informed him that they were removing him from ODI captaincy as well. To this, he replied “okay, fine.” This discussion only lasted a couple of minutes, according to the Test captain.

If this is true, then this is not the ideal manner of removing a permanent captain from his position. If anything, this just amounts to hasty decision-making on part of the BCCI.

It seemed as if the Board had already made up their mind even before listening to what Kohli’s future plans were. These definitely are not signs of a healthy dressing room environment!

#1 – Cracks in the Dressing Room

With so much going on off the field, we can only wonder what will happen on it! There is bound to be some sort of friction between the two captains now, even if it is not because of their own doing.

Rohit and Kohli are both batters who have always wanted the best for Indian cricket. However, due to some poor administration from the powers at be, we might unfortunately see a situation where there are two teams within a team.

This is never a good sign, especially for a team like India which is a powerhouse in world cricket at the moment!

So these are the 3 reasons why we feel this miscommunication will do no good! We only hope that all the controversies take a backseat when India takes the field against South Africa on Boxing Day.
