SL vs IND: We want players to express themselves, be themselves: Dhawan

SL vs IND 2021: Opener Shikhar Dhawan, who will lead the Indian limited-overs team in Sri Lanka for the limited-overs series next month. He has said that life in the bio-bubble has helped bring back the old times when players were in the middle of the match. Even later, the bond will develop by being around each other.

“When we went home from the [suspended] IPL, we rested and spent time with our families after such a long time,” Dhawan told the media before the team left for Sri Lanka.

We got to know our families closer and that’s what we liked. Our training also continued. Rahul Dravid is going as head coach in the tour. If Gabbar is to be believed, the team is doing a great job with Dravid.

Talking about working with Dravid, Dhawan said, “I played under his coaching when I was captaining India A in Bangladesh. We harmonize with each other. We want an environment in which boys can express themselves, be themselves. That’s how we will get the best out of them.

Dhawan further said, then we quarantined here (in Mumbai), as seniors we have a great opportunity to share our experiences with the youth. When all the boys were together after the day’s play Bio-Bubble is coming back to life.

We are spending time together. It is helping with bonding. That is one sign of a good team – good bonding, trust and I am sure we will benefit from each other’s experience.

As is India’s tour of Sri Lanka, with
regular skipper Virat Kohli and the main team on the tour of England, Dhawan will lead the Indian team against Sri Lanka next month. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the vice captain of the team.

India has to play Sri Lanka in three One Day Internationals and as many T20 matches. The tour will begin on July 13 and end on July 25. India will play three ODIs (July 13-18) and three T20 Internationals (July 21-25) in Sri Lanka.
