“Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock, who has had a greater influence in the history of WWE?”

“Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock, who has had a greater influence in the history of WWE?”

The Rock, as entertaining as he is and with the presence and star power that he has, doesn’t have a great deal of range as a performer.

He isn’t a technically great wrestler. He is athletic and has been involved in some very good matches that have had.

The crowd completely enthralled but he only really knows how to work a WWE main event style match.

Character wise he’s only really had success as a cocky heel who makes his opponents look like idiots, or a cocky face who makes his opponents look like idiots.

Steve Austin on the other hand has always been a fan of great technical wrestling and always wanted to be a good technician.

He succeeded at it, and was actually hired by WWE to be a guy who doesn’t talk.

But can tell a great story through his in ring work. He was good at that role, but he also found it frustrating.

As he had discovered that he has a good aptitude for promos during his brief stint in ECW.

Right up until his neck injury he was a pretty great technician, but after he broke his neck he had to work a style that was safer for him.

Luckily his character suited just mostly throwing kicks and punches so he managed to make it work for him.

Character wise he’s tried a lot of different stuff both inside and outside WWE/WWF and has shown great range. My own personal favourite period was the unhinged heel persona.

Where he aligned himself with Vince McMahon and would bounce between being a despicable, violent, nasty heel.

A comedy character without losing any legitimacy as a dangerous force to be reckoned with.

He also pushed himself very hard as a heel, and opened up his range in matches, doing more technical wrestling.

They taking a lot more bumps probably to the detriment of his own health.

The Rock’s promo style, while great, mostly consisted of catchphrases, dick jokes, and sexist slurs. Stone Cold Steve Austin had a really interesting anecdotal style.

And his changes in character over the years allowed him to show a lot of different sides to his persona.

I personally think the range of Steve Austin, both as a character and as a wrestler, is superior to The Rock.

Also in terms of making money for WWE through merchandise sales, Steve Austin is the greatest of all time, beating both The Rock and Hulk Hogan.

The recent example of Stone Cold’s return at WrestleMania 38 where he faced Kevin Owens and gave him the stunner.

At the very base of his own in Dallas, Texas. It was all electrifying as crowd heard the ‘shattered’ music of Steve Austin.

Who else can miss that awkward stunner on Mr. McMahon on the Night 2 of WrestleMania 38, which recalls their old long rivalry.
