Top 5 Players Who are Not Playing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021

5 Players Not Playing in WT20: As the Super 12s stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 begins tomorrow, we look at the Top 5 players who are not featuring in this edition!

We are just one sleep away from the Super 12s stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 to begin! This is the stage of the big boys, where the stars of the game descend. However, there are a few surprise exclusions from different teams.

We look at 5 such stars who have been stalwarts in T20 cricket, but unfortunately are missing out on this edition of the T20 World Cup:

#5 – Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka)

The veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder is not a part of the T20 side of the island nation this time around. The 34-year-old has scored 1,148 runs in 78 T20Is and has also taken 38 wickets.

The wily old all-rounder’s experience would definitely have come handy for the Sri Lankans. However, unfortunately, he missed out. We hope he will be back in the next year’s World Cup!

#4 – Ben Stokes (England)

The talismanic English all-rounder has been involved in many iconic moments of English cricket over the last few years! However, he will not partake in this year’s T20 World Cup.

Stokes is currently on a mental health break, and is also using this time to nurse the finger injury he sustained earlier this year during the India leg of IPL 2021.

We do hope that the maverick southpaw comes back to cricket soon, and gives us even more iconic moments to remember!

#3 – Sunil Narine (West Indies)

When the West Indies announced their squad for the T20 World Cup, one man’s exclusion caught everyone’s eye – Sunil Narine. The veteran spinner has been a legend in this format.

Narine showed how valuable he can be on these dry UAE pitches, during his impressive showing for KKR in IPL 2021. He was one of the major reasons why KKR were able to reach the final.

However, he will not be able to showcase his mystery spin skills for the men in maroon in this World Cup. Hopefully, we will see him back in the Caribbean squad soon!

#2 – Jofra Archer (England)

The speedster who originally hails from Barbados, will be sorely missed by the English side in their quest for another white-ball world title.

Archer is currently nursing an elbow injury which has ruled him out from not only the T20 World Cup, but also the Ashes to happen later this year.

Archer would have been a very potent force with his raw pace on these two-paced UAE pitches!

#1 – Shikhar Dhawan (India)

The southpaw from Delhi has really been unfortunate to miss out. He has been phenomenal in T20 cricket in the last 3 years, averaging more than 40 while striking at more than 140!

These kind of numbers would make him a batting mainstay in any T20 squad! However, with age not on his side and a plethora of young top-order batters coming through the Indian ranks, Dhawan finds himself excluded from India’s World Cup squad.

We hope that the 35 year-old gets one last hurrah before calling it a day!

So these are the 5 players who will not be featuring in the T20 World Cup 2021!
