Triple H assures that NXT never intended to compete with AEW

Triple H led one of the most recognized and appreciated stages of NXT by WWE fans.  The black and gold brand went from being a development.

Territory to becoming a brand that, at times, became more relevant than the company’s main brands, at least from the point of view of fans.

However, that all changed when NXT went live on television, competing with AEW Dynamite on Wednesday nights. The so-called “Wednesday war”.

fell on AEW’s side, causing NXT to change days.  In addition, the WWE brand underwent a complete facelift, renewing its roster and going back.

To its beginnings, presenting unknown fighters to a large part of the public and betting on youth to the detriment of veteran status.

Meanwhile, WWE is finalizing preparations for its next big PLE, Clash at The Castle, which is being heavily promoted these days.

Among the multiple interviews granted by the company’s expedition, the one that Triple H had with Ariel Helwani on the BT Sport YouTube channel.

Stands out, where the WWE creative chief discussed various topics, including the past, present.

And future of NXT.  Then we leave you with his statements about it, transcript courtesy of WrestlingNews.co:

On whether his “loss” to AEW was a punishment for NXT

“No, look, people pushed hard in this competitive war. It was never about that. Look, first of all, they beat our development system, good for them.

Right? No, it was never about that. There was never a pressure of “you have to beat that”. It was never about that. It was about offering the.

Best product that we could. Like I said, it changed over time, during the pandemic, all of that changed over time. And (it was presented us)

The opportunity to change again and go back to what (NXT) really was in the beginning, right? When you look at a lot of the stars that.

Have gone through that system, that had started from scratch, or with very little exposure anywhere and then became big stars with us.

Many people.  And we had lost the ability to take those people and prepare them from the beginning. We really had it and it’s the biggest change there is.”

“I’m proud of how Shawn (Michales) and that team have taken (the reins), even in circumstances where there was a lot of change.

And they have received this kind of amalgamation and have had to go out there, take it and run with it. “The work they’ve done is incredible.

And now I think you can see how people are starting to wipe the slate clean with all these athletes that you’ve never heard of and you’ve.

Never seen before. And they’re green and they don’t know what they’re doing and they’re out there doing this, you’re seeing now that.

It’s starting to pick up the pace again and starting to become what it is, again. I really believe in that brand. I think you’ll see it here as well.”

On the end of NXT UK and the future of NXT Europe

“The decision to withdraw NXT UK. It’s the right decision for us. We had plans to do what we’re going to do now right before the pandemic hit.

So we couldn’t do it. Our partnership with BT allowed it to stay on the schedule. all the time. But the truth is that it was totally different from where.

We wanted to take it. Now we’re taking it off the schedule so we can get to NXT Europe, because it’s hard to do both at the same time.

Continue to operate a product and build a new product around it.  We’re going to take it back for a while, we’re going to bring it back with NXT Europe.

In a bigger way than it was before.  And the intention is that, if we are successful, we can repeat it.  So be it NXT Europe, NXT India, NXT South Africa, NXT Mexico.

(And) being able to take those products, put them everywhere, and at some point, over time, build local brands in those markets.

Build around that arenas like the World Cup where, you know, they’re competing in that level, all over the world.  And that tide then feeds into

Raw and Smackdown.  If Raw and SmackDown are the NFL, NXT at all levels is college football.

It’s amazing football.  In a way, like the NFL some like it better.  It becomes that, but it’s all a feeder system of the big picture.”

On whether he considers AEW to be competition

“Okay, again, it’s funny. I’ve heard Nick (Khan) say that. And I’ve heard people say it’s an evasive answer. It’s not an excuse. It’s all competition.

We pay attention to everything. You have to. Do we pay attention to AEW, do I watch it week to week?

No. I’m aware of what’s going on there? To a certain extent, right? very much in the style of what they do.’ I have no idea.”

“At the end of the day, you have to focus on what you do. You have to focus on your product. It doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing.

Of people want to see that product, there’s nothing you can do about it, right? (Just) focus on my product, make my product the best it can be.

And I’m confident in the ability of this team, because of the number of people, because of the talent that we have. I’ll put our talent against anybody. You know, that’s how you are successful”.
