UCL Semifinal Result: Real Madrid held 1-1 against Chelsea despite Benzema’s goal in Ist Leg


Real Madrid were held 1-1 by Chelsea at the Alfredo Di Stéfano on Tuesday night in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.
Christian Pulisic broke the deadlock early in the first half but Benzema equalized one minute short of the hour mark as a stalemate ensured Chelsea go home with an away goal.
The Blues were the better side throughout the match while Real Madrid could not break down their defence.
Real Madrid had only one shot on target in the entire match while Chelsea had 5.
Courtois was called into action very early as he kept out Werner’s shot from close range. The German striker knew that he should have scored with that one.
Chelsea made the early inroads as they kept possession and control the ball play and eventually were rewarded.

The American latched onto Rüdiger’s sublime ball and with time and space given, went round the keeper and scored with composure.

It was a classic goal from the Blues as they took the lead with a fantastic piece of skill.
Benzema almost levelled matters within no time but struck the post and Chelsea were let off.
Chilwell nearly doubled the lead for the visitors but his shot was narrowly wide of the target.
Real Madrid kept the pressure on and finally were level on the night as Benzema scored.

This was Benzema 71st goal in the competition. The goal made him the joint-fourth top scorer in the Champions League.

The quality dipped in the second half as Chelsea secured a massive 1-1 draw in Madrid.
