UEFA Champions League Results: Salah and Mane goals help Liverpool beat RB Leipzig in first leg of Round of 16 match

Liverpool have got one foot in the quarter finals of the Champions League with a 2-0 away win against RB Leipzig at Puskas Arena, Budapest with goals from the forward duo of Salah and Mane.

The game was well poised at the start when both teams went at each other but it was not until Angelino who’s cross to Dani Olmo was hit against the post. Salah too had a chance but squandered the opportunity.

In the second half, Leipzig only had themselves as Salah pounced on a loose ball from Sabitzer to fire home and break the deadlock. A horrendous piece of defending by Mukiele five minutes after Salah opened the scoring let Mane get through and double the advantage.

The hosts tried to find a way back into proceedings but Liverpool held on to take a 2-0 lead back home and gain an advantage going into the 2nd leg in three weeks-time.
Leipzig owing to their form were expected to make Liverpool work really hard but the Premier league champions held on and capitalized on poor decision making by the Leipzig players to gain a well-deserved victory.

Leipzig will have it all to do at Anfield on 10th March as they look to qualify for the quarters but that will only be possible via a victory. Liverpool, who have been very inconsistent this season will look to complete the formalities against the German side and book a place in the next stage of the knockouts.
