UEFA Euro 2020: The UEFA Euro 2020 will culminate on the July 11th, 2021 at the Wembley Stadium after a lot of ups and downs.

This season of the UEFA Euro has seen some of the best talents showcase their skills at the top level and contribute to their team’s success.

From goal-scoring to gritty defending, we have seen it all in the delayed continental event which is down to its last three matches.

Diggingsports has picked out 11 players from a host of talent that we feel deserve a mention in the UEFA Euro 2020 team of the tournament.

Players have been chosen on the basis of their contributions and influential aspect in aiding the team’s success.

Goalkeeper

Yann Sommer

ImageOur pick for the Goalkeeper of the UEFA Euro 2020 is Switzerland’s Yan Sommer.

The Swiss stopper had a brilliant tournament and was heavily involved in Switzerland’s journey to the Quarter-finals.

He was involved in back-to-back penalty shootouts against France and Spain within the same week and was on queue when needed.

Yann’s agility and brilliant shot-stopping ability was showcased throughout the tournament.

Hence, it is only fair that he gets a mention here.

Defenders

Luke Shaw

ImageThe England left-back has been outstanding through the tournament and will hope to continue the same in the Semi-final against Denmark.

With 3 assists in the knockouts, Shaw stepped up for the side when it mattered the most and dealt crucial blows which aided England’s success.

Shaw has enjoyed the consistent runs down the flank and has continued his good domestic form.

He remains a vital key in unlocking the trophy success for England.

Giorgio Chiellini

ImageThe 36-year-old Italian has once again shown why he is on the most important defenders of today’s time.

With only 1 goal conceded, Chiellini has brought in stability and experience to Italy’s line-up.

His leadership has been immaculate and continues to be an inspiration to the Azzurri set-up.

Chiellini has been an important part of Italy’s journey in the Euro 2020 and looks to lift his first major trophy.

Leonardo Bonucci

ImageBonucci has linked-up well with Chiellini and remains a rock at the back for Italy. He has won possession countless times during the competition.

And holds the back-line with his astute leadership and experience.

Bonucci and Chiellini provided the world football with nothing short of a ‘Ph.D in Defending’ against Belgium, and was one of the main reasons for Italy’s win.

He played all the matches in the competition so far and holds the key to success ahead.

Vladimir Coufal

ImageThe Czech Republic right-back slots in straightaway after an impressive Euro 2020.

Coufal provided 2 assists in the competition against Scotland, Denmark and put in towering performances throughout all the matches.

He was the glue that kept the Czech Republic defence together with his intelligent game-awareness.

His best performance was against Denmark in the Quarterfinal but it wasn’t enough as the Czechs bowed out.

Midfielders

Raheem Sterling

ImageThe Manchester City winger has been the man of the tournament for England.

He has scored thrice and assisted one goal in the Three Lions incredible campaign with his impeccable performances and goals from the left-wing.

Sterling has infused energy and creativity from the get go and keeps defenders on their toes.

England secured two 1-0 wins in group stage which saw Sterling score the winner on both occasions.

An important goal against Germany followed by a delicious through ball for Kane’s goal against Ukraine kept him going.

He remains Southgate’s main weapon if England is to win the title.

Paul Pogba

The Frenchman couldn’t take his side all the way but was their best player by a distance.

Paul Pogba was incredible from the center of the park as scored and assisted 1 goal each in the competition.

His through ball for Benzema’s second and the spectacular strike against Switzerland were probably the highlights of his brilliance.

Pogba consistently held his own and put in one good performance after another as France secured a round of 16 finish.

He makes the cut in the team entirely due to his approach and skill-laden campaign.

Jorginho

ImageThe Italian midfielder has been on song in the tournament and is a vital part of the Azzurri squad.

His experience, positive mindset and approach are his strong points which he uses wisely.

Jorginho has consistently played well for Italy as they walked to the semi-finals of the competition.

He has been reliable throughout and when cut loose, can create mayhem for the opposition.

Joakim Mæhle

ImageThe midfielder starred in his Denmark’s success in Euro 2020.

Mæhle scored twice against Russia and Wales before assisting the all-important winner against Czech Republic to send his side through.

Joakim was impressive with his creativity, versatility and picked up the main hot-spots, created impact every time.

He has been undoubtedly the player of Denmark’s campaign.

Strikers

Patrik Schick

Schick slots himself easily as he scored in every match except one for Czech Republic.

The forward scored 5 goals and is on level with Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the Golden Boot.

Out of the 5, one goal was and should be termed the goal of the competition even before the voting ends.

Such was the audacity and beauty of the 49.7 yards goal against Scotland.

The Leverkusen forward’s aerial ability and goal-scoring form made him a threat against every side he faced.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Was there ever any doubt!

Cristiano Ronaldo scored 5 goals in the Euro 2020 and broke innumerable records for Portugal this time.

From top-scorer in the European Championships to being tied for most international goals, Ronaldo did it all.

He scored a brace twice in the competition against Hungary, France and remained the main weapon for Santos’ side.

However, Portugal couldn’t manage to surpass the Round of 16 as they lost against Belgium.

Ronaldo carried the nation’s hopes once again but lacked the able support as A Seleção missed out on the Henri Delaunay trophy.
