Villarreal beat Man Utd: Villarreal Won their maiden Europa League title; beat United 11-10 on penalties


Villarreal win UEL title: Unai Emery captured his fourth UEL title as Villarreal win UEL title by beating Man Utd 11-10 on penalties in Gdańsk on Thursday.
Moreno and Cavani scored for both sides but Rulli saved De Gea’s crucial spot kick to win the title for the Yellow Submarine.

FIRST HALF
Manchester United kicked off proceedings and soon began to press the Spanish opposition.
Both sides took their time to get into the game and looked to gather more possession before beginning the attacks.
Either sides were unsuccessful in putting their keepers under pressure as United began to up the tempo.
Villarreal began to feel more confident and had their share of the ball in certain moments as well.
Ole’s Manchester United lacked the energy levels on the field required for a bug match and paid the price.
ImageGerard Moreno latched onto a pinpoint delivery from the left flank by Parejo before he steered home to give the Yellow Submarine a 1-0 advantage.
The Spanish striker pulled away from the United defense and got the slightest of contacts to score his 7th goal of the UEL campaign.
United had more share of the ball but lacked potency and were lackluster as the game reached half time.
Villarreal led at the break with a 1-0 advantage courtesy Moreno’s strike.
SECOND HALF
The Red Devils knew they had a job at hand and immediately got into the thick of things.
United kept more possession at the start of the second half and eventually found their way through.
Cavani equalized in the 55th minute to get Man Utd back on level terms.
Villarreal failed to clear their lines from a corner which Rashford drove into the box.

His shot was deflected by Mctominay into the path of Cavani, who held his composure and slotted home for 1-1.
The English side kept the attack on Villarreal but the Yellow Submarine defended with desire, grit and determination to keep United out.
Torres made a good block to prevent Cavani’s header from finding the back of the net.
There were no more shots from either side on target which tested the keepers.
The surge continued from Ole’s side but Emery’s men held on to keep it 1-1 at full time.
The match needed extra time as it finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.

EXTRA TIME
1st HALF
Villarreal looked more brighter in this half time but there were tired legs visible at both ends of the pitch.
Moreno and Alcacer had their chances but blazed their shots wide as United defended with composure.
2nd HALF
It was more of the same in this half as both sides defended well.
Neither side could be separated and the match went into penalty shootout to determine the winner.
