Aston Villa begin their pre-season with a friendly fixture against Walsall FC on Thursday, as they eye a winning start to the campaign.

The Villains have been busy in the transfer market and additions such as Young, Buendia are set to add experience and exposure to the Aston Villa side.

After a bright start to the campaign, Villa lost their way and finished outside the top half of the EPL table.

Smith’s side finished 11th and lacked composure throughout the campaign.

With a number of players missing from the squad due to international commitments, Villa will look to give time to youngsters which is an opportunity to cash in ahead of the EPL season starting next month.

On the other hand, Walsall played Crystal Palace in their last warm-up match and lost 1-0.

They face another EPL outfit in Villa and can test themselves to the extent ahead of this clash.

After a opening fixture win over Leamington, Walsall’s loss against Palace gives them the chance to get back on the winning note if they get their performance spot on against Villa.

Both sides last met in a friendly pre-season match in 2019 where Villa thumped Walsall 5-1.

Jota and Wesley scored a brace while Grealish wrapped up the win in style.

Sinclair scored the only goal for Walsall which proved to be a consolation goal.
