WWE News: John Cena’s SummerSlam return is doubtful, plans for new movie

WWE News: There have been rumors in recent weeks about WWE’s willingness to organize a title match between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and John Cena, at the next edition of SummerSlam. The pay-per-view will take place on August 21, from the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

New commitments in Hollywood

According to a Variety report, Cena has joined the cast of a new film called Argylle. The cast also includes Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara and Samuel L. Jackson. Filming will begin in August, with a release date set for 2022.

A still uncertain return

The film’s start date and contract insurance could put a spoke in the wheel at WWE, especially if filming begins before SummerSlam 2021.

At The Rock has often prevented him from fighting in the ring precisely because of these assurances. While Cena has previously stated that he could not attend WrestleMania 37 for reasons related to the anti-COVID protocols on the set of his television series Peacemaker.

Cena recently confirmed his return to WWE during an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but did not specify any date or time window.
